BCHPCA Board Secretary/Treasurer appointed
Vera Webb has been appointed to the position of Secretary/Treasurer on the Board of Directors. Vera earned her PhD in Microbiology from the University of British Columbia. She worked as a researcher in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology at UBC for 18 years. Her most recent area of interest was the spread of antibiotic resistance.
Vera has been involved with Pacific Rim Hospice since she moved to Tofino in 1998. She has held a number of positions on the Board of Directors; currently in her 4th year as President. Vera has been involved with the Central Vancouver Island Hospice Palliative Care Coordination Committee since its inception. This committee works with the Vancouver Island Health Authority to develop comprehensive End of Life Care for all Vancouver Islanders.
Vera has also served on a number of other Boards of Directors over the past 25 years including the national Board of Science for Peace. The Unitarian Church of Vancouver, the BKS Iyengar Society of British Columbia and the Central Westcoast Forest Society, Tofino Harbour Authority.
Vera served as Councilor for the District of Tofino from 2002 to 2005. In November 2005 she ran for Mayor of Tofino.
Currently Vera operates her own bookkeeping business, Ladies of Ledger Bookkeeping. She provides bookkeeping, payroll and administrative services to local, small businesses and non-profit societies.
