BCHPCA Components of Care

Administration
New Denver & Area Hospice operates with a seven member Board of Directors who meet nine times a year.  The Society is a registered charitable organization.  Funding for one staff member (4 hours/week) comes from the Interior Health Authority.  Donations and fundraising provide funding for training and inservices.

Volunteer Program
Volunteers provide information and support to clients and their families in the Long Term Care Facility or their home.  Volunteers training is provided on an as needed basis.  Educational and support meetings for volunteers are held monthly and volunteers are encouraged to attend workshops.  Volunteers recognition is held in May during Hospice week.  The Hospice Coordinator responds to calls for Hospice service, coordinates volunteer services and training sessions.  The Coordinator is responsible to the Board of Directors.

Home Program
Volunteers provide service to the client at home and respite for family members.  We work directly with the Home Care R.N. and Home Support.

Hospital Program
Volunteers provide services to the 30 bed Long Term Care Facility, where there is a designated Hospice room.

Spiritual and Pastoral Care
Spiritual and Pastoral care are provided on request by members of the local ministerial association.

Bereavement Program
A grief support program is offered to all families of hospice clients and to the general public.  One to one volunteers provide follow-up bereavement support for hospice clients.

Evaluation and Research
Evaluation sessions are held after each death - chaired by the Coordinator and attended by the volunteers who were involved with the client.
