Administration
Shuswap Hospice Society is committed to enhancing the quality of life of those facing death and bereavement through compassionate physical, emotional and spiritual care.  Places the emphasis on care rather than cure.

• Board - 12 members from local communities
• Funding - part community partnership with hospital and part local fundraising
• Executive Director and Volunteer co-ordinator

Volunteer Program
Hospice Volunteers are carefully selected and trained to:provide emotional support for the dying and grieving,
respite and support to clients’ families, work in the community in homes & care facilities & make regular contact
with bereaved to provide bereaement support.  Training is offered throughout the year. We have approximately 40 active volunteers.

Home Program
Compassionate care for dying clients, support for families and bereavement follow-up

Hospital Program
• Volunteers offer psychosocial care for dying and support to families
• Hospital Visitation Programme - 7 volunteers visit hospital weekly for any patients who need ‘friendly visit’.

Spiritual and Pastoral Care
• Spiritual component offered as part of volunteer trainin.
• Facilitator.  Volunters and Staff provide care, as appropriate.

Symptom Management
Community Advisory Team meets approximately every 6 to 8 weeks or when necessary.  Made up of Community Care Team Leader, Hospital Manager, Physician in Charge of Palliative Care, pharmacist, staff of extended care and full care facilities as well as Hospice Executive Director.

Bereavement Program
Support is offered through one-on-one counselling; a variety of bereavement & loss support groups.

Education and Professional Training
Hospice offers education to the community on issues surrounding death, dying, and bereavementthrough lectures, talks to groups, and hosting guest workshops.
