BCHPCA Components of Care

Administration
Creston Valley hospice has been in operation for ten years;  is a strong society of volunteers.  Do small fundraising projects throughout the year mainly to fund education and training. 
• Ten Member Board of Directors, two advisors
• All funding is from public donations

Volunteer Program
Twenty volunteers visit clients mainly at the three long term care facilities in Creston.  Volunteers meet once a month.  Senior volunteers are recognized for long term dedication.

Home Program
None since there are few requests for visits in a home.

Hospital Program
One palliative care bed in hospital with regular nursing care.  Hospice volunteer can visit if requested by family.

Spiritual and Pastoral Care
Lutheran minister was one of the founders and acts as Board advisor; other spiritual/religious supports available.

Bereavement Program
• Serenity walks at the Wildlife Centre
• Grief Couselling when requested

Education and Professional Training
• eight hour training session for volunteers
• some inservices and workshops
• information sharing with the Bonners Hospice in Sandpoint, Idaho
