BCHPCA Components of Care

Mission Statement
The purpose of the society is to create an atmosphere of understanding, acceptance and caring in which professionals and lay persons may serve the needs of dying persons and their families by developing a comprehensive program of assistance and support through the use of community resources and existing health care institutions.

Administration
Board of Directors, Executive Director (.5), Office Assistant (.5).
Own administrative centre near (l block) hospital.


Bereavement Program
One to one volunteers provide support and the Bereavement Counsellor provide follow-up.
Grief Support Group (for anyone who is bereaved) - meets every Thursday from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Bereavement Walking Group – weekly volunteer/client support.

Home Program
Two volunteer coordinators.
One to one support team volunteers.
Partners with:  Home Care Nursing, Home Support Workers, Rainbows, Cowichan District Hospital, Canadian Mental Health and Family Life.

Hospital Program
Volunteer coordinator and volunteers visit and support palliative patients.
One palliative respite room.
Hospice tranquility garden.


Spiritual and Pastoral Care
Volunteers are trained in spiritual companioning.
Hospital pastoral care coordinator/chaplain are available upon request.
Your own priest, minister, or pastor can be contacted on your behalf, if desired.

Vigil Program
Volunteers provide support through the last hours of life.
