The Society started as a steering committee in 1985 and was incorporated in 1987. In 1995 the Rotary Hosapice House was opened.

Volunteer Programs
Volunteers tasks are direct and indirect. Direct receive a thirty hour training and indirect volunteers receive an orientation.
Community volunteer matches to provide a supportive relationship for patients, family members and friends.
Bedside sitting in all community care facilities to provide hospice support.
Hospital Program
Five bed residential Hospice House in the community, providing short-term and permanent admissions for hospice palliative care.
Spiritual and Pastoral Care
Part-time spiritual care advisor position.
Bereavement and Education Program
Bereavement centre which offers: a lending library; educational materials; bereavement support groups; community match palliative support program; education of the general public and other health care providers.
Funding
The majority of our income is from fundraising strategies and events. Approximate percentages are:
• Fundraising events – 30%
• All donations – 12%
• Per diem – 4%
• Northern Health – 40%
• Gaming – 12%
• United Way – 2%
