Administration
• Society Board, Executive Director and Nurse Manager
• Partnership with Interior Health Authority
Volunteer Program
• Over 100 volunteers
• Comprehensive training offered twice a year for client volunteers, additional training required for bereavement volunteers who co-facilitate grief recovery programs
• Auxiliary volunteers are offered basic training in hospice palliative care
• Client volunteers help with maintenance of Hospice House, landscaping, reception duties and fundraising/
Home Program / Hospital Program
• The Palliative Care Team meets weekly to discuss the needs of palliative clients.
• Admissions to Hospice House are made in consultation with the Palliative Care Team (Community Care Nursing, Hospital Staff and Hospice)
Free Standing Hospice
• Vernon Hospice House is a six-bedroom home offering 24-hour residential care during the last three months of life.
• Respite care is available during the last year of life for pain and symptom management or caregiver respite.
• Servers residents of Vernon, Armstrong, Enderby and Spallumcheem.
Spiritual and Pastoral Care
• Volunteer chaplain available to clients.
Grief and Bereavement Program
• Individual and family counseling offered both in the community and at Hospice House
• A variety of grief recover groups are offered.
• Bereavement follow-up for one year after the death of a client.
Evaluation and Research
All programs and services are formally evaluated by clients.
