BCHPCA Components of Care

Administration
This component is administered by the Interior Health Authority.  The Penticton & District Hospice Palliative Care Committee meets monthly to oversee the program.  The program Medical Director is available for consultation.  The Coordinator of Palliative Care Services/Manager is available Monday through Friday at Moog & Friends Hospcie House.

Volunteer Program
Approximately 40 volunteers are active with the program.  Volunteer training is offered with monthly education and support groups.  Volunteers are scheduled daily at Moog & Friends Hospice House and in the community as requested.

Home Program
Client care plans are under the direction of the Coordinator of Palliative Care Services with support from the interdisciplinary team (Community Nurses, Community Health Workers, Social Work, and Volunteers).

Spiritual and Pastoral Care
All visiting clergy are welcome at Moog & Friends Hospice House.

Symptom Management
Admission to the Palliative Care Program is by medical referral.  An interdisciplinary team meets weekly to monitor the progress and address care plans for clients in a variety of settings.

Moog & Friends Hospice House
Moog & Friends Hospice House is a licensed Community Facility specialized in end-of-life care.  It is situated in a garden setting with close proximity to Penticton Regional Hospital.  There are twelve private rooms with adjoining washroom and shower.  Overnight family members may be accommodated.  A Registered Nurse and Licensed Practical Nurse are present 24-hours per day.  Social Work provides individual and family counseling.

Bereavement Program
A part time social worker directs the grief and bereavement program.  In addition a telephone follow up is scheduled for the year following a loss.  Individual counselling is available as required.

Education and Professional Training
An annual seminar is held in Penticton
