BCHPCA Components of Care

Administration
Volunteer Board of eleven members including one pastoral member and one physician.  There is one paid position of half time Coordinator.  The Board meets monthly.  The Society is community based volunteer program funded by Continuing Care Partnership Grant, fundraising, donations, and gaming funds (bingo).

Volunteer Program
Volunteers provide information and support to clients and family, in the home and hospital.  Active volunteers with annual Basic Volunteer Training and have regular education and support meetings during the year. 

Home Program
The program networks with other community programs to provide hospice support in the home, hospital or Long Term Facility, one to one comfort, reading, letter writing, and bereavment support.

Hospital Program
Volunteers visit clients and family in the hospital working with the health care staff to provide Hospice support.

Spiritual and Pastoral Care
Hospice has a pastoral representation on the Board and communication with other ministerial members in the community.

Symptom Management
Grief support for clients and family, Healing Touch, respite care, Palliative Massage, all through volunteer contact with clients and family working with other health care providers.

Bereavement Program
Grief Support Group of fifteen to sixteen weeks meet twice a year as well as one to one grief support and use of lending library.

Education and Professional Training
Extensive information through library of books, videos, and pamphlets  as well as workshops and other materials for children and grief.  Workshops offered to the community include; Healing Touch, Palliative Massage, Managing Grief and Loss, Bereavement Support.

Organization Mission Statement
The Terrace Hospice Society is committed to coordinating the needs of terminally ill people and their families in the Terrace area by providing specially selected, trained Hospice visitors, resource material, education and public awareness.  The Society continues to develop a volunteer-based program in the community that provides compassionate care and support for the dying person and their caregivers.
