The Opportunity

Bring your dynamic leadership style to a high profile, provincial organization.  The British Columbia Hospice Palliative Care Association (“BCHPCA”) is searching for a unique individual to take on the role of Chief Executive Officer.  Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO is responsible for the leadership and management of the organization. The role of the CEO includes building and supporting a provincial network of funders, advocates and service providers in the hospice and palliative care field so that the organization is positioned to successfully meet its programming and service commitments. While managing an office and staff located in Vancouver, the CEO position supports the work of hospice and palliative care organizations, individuals and health-care partners throughout the province of BC.

In order to be best positioned to respond to the changes and challenges facing end of life care in BC, BCHPCA has engaged in an extensive consultation and analysis of its structure, governance and programming.  The CEO will have the opportunity to implement and achieve the operational objectives of the review and to assist the Board of Directors to develop the structure and diversity which will continually support the organization in fulfilling its mission.

The Organization

The British Columbia Hospice Palliative Care Association is a non-profit organization providing Provincial leadership and advocacy in End of Life care.  The membership consists of both organizations and individuals involved in the delivery of care, services and supports to British Columbians faced with life-limiting illness, death and bereavement.  It is the vision of BCHPCA that all people in BC have access to Quality End of Life care, and it is our mission to build capacity in communities to support that vision.  BCHCPA strives for excellence, collaboration, accountability, integrity and diversity in all its work.  The Association is a leader in supporting research, professional education and advocacy for important End of Life resources.  Overall, the BCHCPA encourages the study and promotion of hospice and palliative care services in the province of British Columbia.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate will bring proven executive leadership skills and experience in a complex non-profit organization, or in a public or private company.  Candidates must have at least 5 years senior management experience in a similar position, and have successful experience working with a board of directors.  Candidates should possess an understanding and passion for the work of hospice and palliative care, and be able to effectively advocate for the broader issues at the provincial level.  A strategic and innovative leadership style, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills, are essential.  Candidates should have proven management skills in operations, human resources and staff supervision, communications, fundraising, and financial and IT systems.  Successful candidates will have at least a bachelor’s degree although a Master’s degree in a related field would be ideal.
